It was smaller than I expected, but it was still totally worth it. Instructions are easy to follow, artwork is really cute, and the game is really versatile to where we will probably never get bored of it. I feel like this is a classic🙌

Easy to understand instructions and fun to play. Interesting map and new environment for Ticket to Ride game.

Few of us have come this far in our gaming adventures without crossing paths with at least one of the Ticket to Ride games. For many of us it is among the first games we play. In my case, Ticket to Ride: Europe was my first ‘real’ board game and I still have it in my collection. Ticket to Ride: New York is a newer edition and offers a smaller/quicker gaming option. Let’s see how it holds up.

    Gameplay

Unsurprisingly, Ticket to Ride: New York plays quite similarly to the other games in the series. While instead of train routes you are connecting cab routes, mechanically the games are the same. For an added bit of strategy, there are tourist attractions that reward the player for passing as part of their route, so keep that in mind when you’re placing your cabs!
On each turn players have the option of drawing cards, playing cabs or acquiring new routes for scoring.

    Components

The art on the cards is functional and the cards themselves are of a good quality. The cab pieces are as solid as the train pieces from any other version in the Ticket to Ride series. The game board is quite small, but this is by design. This game is meant to be quick to set up and tear down, and is even a good option for travelling. Instead of a score track, the game includes a score pad and pencil.

    My thoughts

If you enjoy any of the Ticket to Ride games, you will likely enjoy this more condensed version. Myself, I don’t get the larger Ticket to Ride games out anymore unless I am playing with non gamers. That makes the New York edition an asset in my collection as it allows the Ticket to Ride experience in less than 20 minutes compared to the 45 - 60 minute larger experience. I also play this edition the most as a 2 player experience.

    Verdict:
At this point, I would suggest this for anyone who may be a little burnt out on Ticket to Ride games; someone who still looks fondly upon the game but may not want the larger time commitment. Also, if you’re already into games but haven’t experienced the Ticket to Ride games, this is a simple entry point at a smaller price point. If you did not like the previous Ticket to Ride games this one will do nothing to change your mind.

This is a great game, but we had no idea this was a "mini-board". The game is over way too quick. I think I'll stick with the full-sized board.

While my family enjoys a good game of Ticket to Ride, The kids often grumble about the time commitment. Enter this little beauty of a game. It has all the same game mechanics, but it’s like playing Ticket to Ride on fast forward. You’re building routes across the landscape of London with charming double-decker buses instead of trains. It’s easy to learn, and you can complete a game in about 20 minutes. While in the original, you may be able to complete many tickets, with this version, you will probably max out at three or (with a stretch) four completed routes. This keeps the game brief and streamlines the strategy.

If you’re looking for a quicker version of the renowned series, or if you have been considering dipping your toe in the water just to see what it’s like, this is a great family game!

I did have to read through the rules 3 times to get a good grasp on how to play. But once we played the game it all made sense. My 8 year found it fun and challenging to build his line to his destinations and was eager to build a 3rd line. He also got to learn the different parts of New York city so when we do visit New York he will know a few things and places to see. The game is not all pure luck but some strategy on what cards to pick up and how to use them which makes the game fun. If your kids like the Monopoly kids version game they will like this game. Next we we buy the bigger US railroad Ticket to Ride game and "accidently" learn more about where different US cities are located.

I bought one for us, then gave one of our kids one, then when Covid hit, I sent one to another one of our kids out of town. Then when we moved and met our neighbors, I told the one homeschool mom how fun this game is and her sons would enjoy playing since my grandkids do. I gave her our copy to borrow and then just told her to keep it and ordered another copy for myself.

This is a great version to play before you play the BIG version so you get the concept down. This version only takes maybe 20 minutes to play. Hubby and I would play best 2 out of 3 games was the day's winner.

I will say we did get the London one too, but it is not as fun. And we have the bigger one with the expansion. I do recommend getting card covers or using a card shuffler so you don't damage the cards as quickly as we did. They are not cheap to replace! And we had to replace ours within 6 months because of how much we played the game!

This is such a great game to play with family - even my kids got the hang of it and enjoyed it. I love the ‘express’ versions of game. It’s fun to play without taking too long and losing the attention span of the kids. I will definitely be purchasing more of the games in this series.

Me encantó.
