I have owned quite a few grills my last grill was an electric smoker which I will never own another electric smoker in my life I will stick to the masterbuilt gravity series I bought the 560 and depending on how long it lasts I will eventually upgrade to a bigger gravity series

With this grill, there are only two issues and they're purely quality of life asks. I wish there were additional tool hooks on the front shelf for utensils, and that there was a built in starter of some form for the chimney. Other than those two things, the grill/smoker combo is fantastic. Being able to burn almost an entire bag of charcoal as well as wood chunks for smoking is great. Clean up is easy. The offset fuel source is also great compared to more traditional grills. The double sided grates are fantastic as well, but my favorite is hands down the full size griddle. Being able to sear at 700 degrees is a game changer for what I'm used to. Being able to do rotisserie ribs, smoked Boston Butts, and whatever else I can think of has been made infinitely easier by this grill. I truly believe that anyone who likes grilling and smoking should buy whatever version of the Gravity series that suits their needs.

Bought this smoker a month ago for my dad for a Christmas gift just something a little cheeky for him but he's enjoying it already used it 5+ times added his own custom grates!! only downfall is when I purchased this item I realized it didn't come with a cover up sheet not until a couple days later after purchase they came out with one and sadly don't wanna purchase one since I'd have to pay the shipping fee and what not would like it if they did the first 50 or so people that bought one got a free cover but yeh XD other then that amazing gift for you and or your father if he loves to smoke food 24/7

Great smoker

After a lot of online research, watching video reviews and reading forum posts on this model, and having wanted to go back to charcoal as a fuel source for awhile, when a critical part broke in my 21 year old gas grill and I couldn't replace the part, it was time, and I chose this one. I had been wanting to get into the smoking game, but couldn't really justify the space on my deck for yet another cooking apparatus, so this being a combo grill and smoker that runs on lump charcoal really sold me. Having used this 1050 now a couple of times, it did not disappoint on either cook, and has completely met my expectations. It holds the temperature much more evenly than I originally thought it would, too. I had no issues installing and configuring the app, updating the 1050's firmware upon initial connection to the grill went smoothly, and using the app during a cook went just fine as well - no hiccups to report. The hopper is easy to manage, both loading and cleaning, and I love how easily it is to mix in chunks of various woods with the lump charcoal. It is a heavy unit, but maneuvers easily enough on the deck. Delivery was made by Estes due to the size and weight, but went very smoothly overall, in that my order just "showed up" on the upper part of my driveway one morning with no interaction required from me other than to receive the delivery notification. Assembly does take 2 people at various steps, but I did most (~85%) of the assembly myself and that all went very smoothly as well. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and the experience in using it so far!

The 1050 is a beast and does not disappoint!

Works amazingly well, the temp will only vary 5-6 degrees of your setting ,it will maintain it all the way though the 16 pounds of charcoal on long cooks ,I am very happy 😊  providing it keeps working  being i haven't had much luck with the other masterbuilt smoker's making it past 3 cooking , so far so good 2 cooking successfully done lol

Very steady temperatures

The gravity makes cooking with charcoal and wood a breeze! The flavor is fantastic. I came from a pellet grill and the Masterbuilt Gravity is a game changer. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is I wish the burn chamber was more made with better, thicker materials. I bought an after market fix that was easily installed to remedy the issue and hopefully it will help make my Gravity last a long time.

Here's the thing - the first impression of overall product quality is when you're assembling the grill, and the manufacturing quality is poor.  While the materials seem good, there are too many fit problems with the various parts.  See the pictures.  I also had two weld nuts that broke loose when trying to attach the ash box, even with only light force.  

As far as operation, the charcoal bin should be removeable.  Sometimes you'll want to add wood flavor chunks in the ash bin and other times in the charcoal bin.  But removing the leftover charcoal after use is a pain (and messy) ... and there will always be leftover charcoal, so switching from one method to the other isn't as easy as it should be.

Temperature regulation works really good, but it has trouble regulating below 200F.  Once warmed up, it responds to a temperature increase quickly, in a minute or two.  For example, when you want to increase from 225F to 350F to add a crispy finish to smoked wings.

The panel controls are straightforward and the wireless connectivity to a smartphone app seems to work well.  The app is a bit quirky and has 10 or more seconds of latency but seems to work.

Mixed feelings

Temperature control across all grates is respectable and even at all set high temperatures.  Average grate temperatures average about 10-15F higher than set point. Ease of loading and cleaning is excellent.  The hopper and specifically the lower part of the firebox has completely burned through the metal and into the firebrick after only a half dozen cooks.  Concerned about how long that will last and how difficult it will be to replace if even possible.  Would recommend if this issue was mentioned in the manual or addressed on the website.
