Hi there thank you for your question.  You could take out the shelves but the metal frame to the media tower will still be in place which could potentially cause an issue for your stereo.

Can the wood shelves be taken out?  This would work great as a media tower for my stereo, but would need to be able to take out one of the shelves.

Was easy to put together and I absolutely love it.

Love it. I put it together myself. I took my time while doing other things around the house so it took a few hours to complete but the directions are very easy to follow and you really dont need any one else to help. 

Cons- The other reviewer is correct, the demensions are wrong - its almost 21 inches wide not 20 as stated - but fortuneate for me I did not need it to be a perfect fit. 

Pros- Iâve always wanted a fireplace but I live in a small apartment. This absolutely is more fuctional than just having a mantel. The extra shelves are great for decorative items and books. And the fireplace generates heat on colder days/ nights, as well as, creates a cozy atmosphere. Its sturdy and a great value for the money- I got it on clearence for $149. 

I would recommend this for anyone who has a small space.

I love this stand

This Media tower is great! It's a great size and can fit all of my random things perfectly. I especially LOVE the fireplace aspect. My room is too small for a full fireplace but this is small and heats the room up! It was really easy to put together too. I would highly recommend to anyone!

Simple and Easy

Great sturdy shelf system. Couldnt resist the little fireplace. I miss mine from my previous house but this one will do!

The product is amazing. It looks as good in person as from the picture. It was an easy setup. Love it!

Great Media Tower Shelf

I watched this for 2 month to see if it would go cheaper. It did not so I saved up enough money to buy it. Put it together the day after I received it and come to find out the fireplace was missing. I have sent it back to Walmart and now waiting for my refund.

Missing Fireplace

My package came in, I was super excited when the handyman came to put it together for me BUT, it was missing the fireplace itself...smh. Customer service for return was awesome so now I got to wait until FedEx picks up the return before they can send me another one

Disappointed

despite the measurements being listed as 20" wide, it actually is just a hair under 21" and didn't fit in the space I specifically purchased it for. I live nowhere near a Walmart, and spent hours assembling the piece, so I can't return it and am really disappointed.
