Quit working 4 months after warranty expired
2 out of 8 that I bought have failed at 2 years and 4 months old. They have a 2 year warranty. These are all hard wired and a month ago they started having false smoke alarms at random times during the day and in the middle of the night. Each time there was no smoke in my home or any reason for it. They would go off for about 2-3 min and stop. So loud with all 8 of them going off around the house at once and you cannot silence them. They have gone off over 10 times so far. They are all linked together so I disconnected the linking wire on all of them, so I could isolate which one was giving the false alarm. Two nights later the one in the downstairs hallway went off for smoke at 3:30 in the morning. So I disconnected it and pulled out it’s battery. Was happy that I found it finally. But not so lucky as three night later the one in the upstairs hallway went off about 40 minutes after we went to bed, so I disconnected it. It’s been a week now and no more alarms. At least so far….I put all new batteries in these when it first started happening and that didn’t stop it. I even blew them out gently with compressed air as it recommends on the back of them for service. The two I took out and put in the garage, I put the batteries back in them and one of them went off the other afternoon. So that’s a 25% failure rate and these are only 2 years and 8 months old. I also did not paint them or do anything to cause this. Fist alert was the original smoke detectors in my home and I replaced them as they were 10 years old and I never had any problems with them.I’ll be buying my smoke detectors from my big box home improvement stores from now on. Yes they’ll be more expensive, but I never want to go through this horrible experience again. And you can probably guess that I do not recommend this product……
