This new Amazon Soap Dispenser has a motion sensor that automatically dispenses the soap when you put your hand under the nozzle, so you don't have to touch the dispenser at all. It has an internal battery so it does not need to be plugged in, (except to charge). It has a ring of lights on the top that count down 20 seconds as a hand washing time guide, and it can pair with an Echo device to run Routines when you wash your hands.
We currently have it set up in the bathroom, paired to an Echo Flex that is plugged into the bathroom outlet. It is a helpful reminder for the little ones, about how long they need to wash for.
Here are my thoughts/tips so far:
-I received an email from Amazon after the Dispenser was delivered, that reminds you to set up the Dispenser in the Alexa app, as well as a few FAQs.
-The Dispenser is charged with an included Micro USB cable. The port is on the back next to the Power button, covered with a flap, so you might not notice it at first. We plugged it in, and went through the setup process, and then unplugged it and turned it off to fill it with soap.
-During the Setup process, your Alexa app will instruct you to scan a barcode. This barcode is located on the very back of the blue Quick Start Guide (The one that says “Hello” on the front)
-Twist the top of the Dispenser to lift the top off, and fill it with liquid soap. Note that the MAX FILL line is only about halfway up the container, do not overfill. Also note that the Guide says to ONLY use regular hand soap, not the foaming soap or hand sanitizer!
-You can customize your Routines; for example, we have our Routine set up to play music from the Echo Flex while we are washing our hands, then after 20 seconds the music stops, it plays a “Success” chime, and Alexa says “Your hands are clean!” from the Echo Flex speaker. (You can type in whatever text you want her to say in the Alexa app when editing your Routine)
- The button on top of the Dispenser, in the middle of the ring of lights, will disable Routines, if you don't want the Routines to run. When it is lit up, Routines are disabled (It looks like a musical note, with a circle and line through it) The ring of lights will still flash to count down 20 seconds while Routines are disabled.
-You can setup automatic reordering of soap in the Alexa app. In the Alexa app, select your Soap Dispenser device, under the “Status” section, choose “Supply”, you can then choose Smart Reorder, Just Notify Me, or Do Nothing. (note - We originally ordered the Dispenser that came bundled with Mrs. Meyer's soap, but that soap is not currently one of the options you can select with automatic Smart Reorder; there are currently two options to choose from. This is not a big deal, and could of course change in the future, but I just wanted to point it out.)
So far, we are enjoying using the new Soap Dispenser. It has been a helpful way to remind the kids of the minimum amount of time that they need to wash for, and it is a little less messy than the push-top soap dispenser that we were using before.

Configuration: Soap DispenserVerified Purchase
I ordered this newest member of the Amazon family not so much for the connectivity it offers to Echo devices but because I like the idea of the 20 second timer for my kids (and me, who am I kidding) and for the automated variable soap dispensing option this offers. Further, I love that it is rechargeable and that a charge can go for a few months. I wish Amazon had opted for charging via USBC instead of micro but it isn't a deal breaker. I cannot speak to the longevity of the battery at this point but the rest is great. The variable soap dispenser feature takes a few tries to get right but it works. The further out you place your hand the more soap you get. I find that the closest squirt is more than enough for most jobs though so I recommend placing your hand close. The timer is handled via white LED’S that round around the top of the device. Easy to see and well done. If you happen to keep an Alexa device nearby, you can easily program music to play, a joke, news, etc to automatically fire up when you engage the dispenser. This isn’t a feature we will bother with but I recommend trying it if it sounds good to you. I could see this being a very cool feature for a house with smaller kids. All of this can be handled and easily managed through the Alexa app which will manage this soap dispenser for you. For me though, Amazon has done enough with this well made dispenser to justify the price without all of that. Filling up the dispenser is simple and not messy. Speaking of, I highly recommend the Mrs. Meyer's soap refills for this. $9 gets you about three fills which should last a very long time. $55 isn’t inexpensive but it is price competitive and offers a lot. Recommend.
*Update* So we are about two months in here using this as our primary dispenser in the kitchen. It is still on the original charge and soap fill. We are very happy with this. Way to go Amazon design team!
