Here is my review of the product, first you can never go wrong with an Anker Product which has outstanding customer service. I own many Anker brand products and love them for their function and price.
This dual dash cam features both front and rear facing cams.
Front facing cam records 1080p at 30 fps. Which I think is standard. It can be adjusted up and down and swivel 180 degree. I would of preferred 4K resolution at 60fps. But even at those high resolution you will not be able to clearly see cars speeding by. I mean you can see the cars but you wouldn’t be able to make out license plates or small details. The front cam specs are sufficient at day time and you can make out make, model, color and plates (directly in front of you) at roughly 3 cars away from you anything beyond that you will not make out plate numbers. At night time you will see most cars and their lights. It will be harder to see make, model, color and I was able to make out plates at around 1 car away or less anything beyond that no.
Rear facing cams records at 720p and can adjust 100 degree up and down independently of the cam. Interior is good enough to record if you are ride sharing and the field of view is good to the front passengers and minimal view of the rear passengers based on placement. My only gripe here is I wish field of view included beyond the front driver and passenger windows so when your pulled over you can record the interaction of being pulled over by an officer. You can manually swivel the cam to the field of view but I’m sure many will forget. At night time it’s passable. But rear passengers are barely viewable.
Extra information:
The camera only records both from front and inside(rear) at the same time and not independently. Not to also mention it records sounds as well (which can be turned off).
While this camera does not support WiFi the sdcard is easily accessible to get and can be used on a computer with the included sd card adapter if need be. The time and gps location meta data can only be viewed using the proprietary Anker software obtained on their site (free).
Included is 2 dash mounts mounted by 3M tape which I didn’t used. I ended up contacting Anker for a suction mount which they offered to me free with proof of purchase.
You can purchase the hardwired kit from them via Amazon. I’ve used it and see no problem with battery drain. I’ve checked with my voltage meter during my tests. I didn’t notice any decline in power, but I do use my vehicle everyday. It is said that it has a built sensor to turn off if power drops to a certain threshold. I can comment on that since it’s always recording. My guess everyone will have different experiences and the individual settings on the cam will affect those experiences. Only downside to the hardwired kit that connects to the OBD port is that if you have an adapter for safe driver insurance plugged in you wouldn’t be able
to use that. (Maybe get dual adapter?).
Other than that it’s a decent camera for the price and customer service is top. Fast response within 48 hrs.
The only things i wish it had was maybe software updates to the Unit itself and when I’m parking mode. When you get to your car it would be nice to see an alert status on the screen. Instead of having to go view and check.
I was hesitant at first to buy a low-cost model, but I'm pretty sure Anker is an Amazon brand, not just some quick popup shop, and they make good quality stuff. Once I opened up the box, it became clear that they weren't cheaping out. The box itself is well made, with molded foam inserts and a magnetic clasp. Everything is packaged so well, and it all feels high-quality. The camera itself works really well and is super easy to use. Just plug it in and it starts recording. Cut the power and it saves everything and shuts off.
It has just one cable; the power cable, and that makes for a very clean install. I opted to buy a hard-wire kit so that it would turn off completely when I turn off the car and not drain the battery. I also went with a 64gb SD card which I've read will store around 4 hours of footage. In reality, I doubt I really need more than 10 minutes of storage.
I should also mention that I installed it myself in about an hour, and that includes running the power cable through the trim so that it can't be seen.
For me, it's just there as backup in case of an accident. It doesn't need to read license plates from half a mile away as long as it shows what happened. It doesn't need wifi or whatever; I have no interest in rewatching my morning commute on a regular basis. If there's an accident, I can simply take the SD card out, find the video file, and send it to the insurance company. Hopefully I'll never need to do that, and I can't imagine a scenario where I would have to do it so often that I'd need the luxury of wireless transfer. It doesn't need a separate rear camera; it shows the view of the rear windshield, and that will work just fine for disproving someone who claims I cut them off. Apparently some people want that rear camera so they can show that the person behind them was distracted, but that's just not necessary. The insurance agent won't care. If you are hit from behind, you won't be at fault, even with the limited view of the rear camera.
It does everything I need it to. The one thing it won't do is capture the license plate in the case of a hit-and-run. For me, spending 3-5 times more on a 4k dash cam to account for that one scenario is not worth it, but to each their own.
