When I need large, mechanical storage I've stuck with WD drives for years and have not been let down like with other brands. These drives are no exception. They run fast, reasonably cool and out of the box zero bad sectors. (For large drives I recommend full smart sector scans before using). They have the equivalent of Reds inside which typically last. Catch them on sale and they're a great choice.

ITs a good size of data storage, and when on sale a decent value. But often I see the 14TB for $200. What I dont like is that companies restrict or try and restrict the use. It should be easy to take it out and use it as internal, but its not that easy. Also some of these are 5400rpm slower drives. Its not so critical as these are used for backup. This has NO power button, and that is something I would like to see, as well as a longer USB cable. Having said all that, I think the worst part of this drive is the design. It is not designed to stack with other WD Easystore drives and you can only have it vertical, as a designed to setup drive. You can lay it down, but it will slide around. The last thing you want is 12tb sitting vertically for you to knock over.

For a person with lots of storage needs the WD 1tb EasyStore HD is a must. WD red technology for NAS application is great to have for long term storage information. Whether you are looking to back up a little bit over your lift time or a digital hoarder, this hard drive is for you. transfer rates are fast thanks to USB 3.0. The case is easy to shuck if needed.
