My daughter recently had a school project that taught her how to make a home made weather station. So when I had the opportunity to review this product, I thought this would perfect to try out. The item came nearly fully assembled already (see the pieces in the picture I uploaded). Putting it together was simple. The challenge was placing it. Ideally, you should have this 20 - 30 feet above ground, and far away from walls, buildings, metal structures... Well, I had to be practical. At some point, I will need to change the battery. So I placed it above a wooden post about 12 feet up. This will have to do. The transmission range of the base to the station is about 300 feet. I had the base in the kitchen and it had no problem receiving. The display is in color and shows indoor and outdoor temperature, wind speed and direction, "wind chill", rainfall, date and time. Admittedly, it has not rained yet so I can't comment on that feature. But I am looking forward to the next rain storm to get some local data right out of my backyard. I think this is a fun device for the whole family. Highly recommended!

Fun personal weather station!

I'm always complaining about the weather people never getting the weather correct. Just last night we had a series of bad thunderstorms which my poop dog is afraid of and it was too late to help her. Now I can see when the barometric pressure is falling and the wind speeds. I set the outdoor piece on my deck which is pretty high off the ground and it works great. The temp inside accuacy is better than my furnace thermostat which is possessed. Anyways great weather station. It actually catches the rain and measures. So technically advanced.

The most awesome gadget I own

If you like to track and follow very accurate weather stats in your own backyard, look no further than this AcuRite Weather Station. My wife and I rely on current and accurate weather information; her for gardening, me for jumping on my motorcycle or doing a bit of landscaping work. This new unit does it all: Temperature and Humidity Gauge, Rain Gauge, Wind Speed and Wind Direction. It is wireless, a great plus in my book, as who needs more cables to string and manage. It provides so much information and some windows of information can be changed to your needs.
The system arrived in a very sturdy box and the packing was the best I’ve ever seen; every component was form fitted to ensure no damage during shipment. Inside the box you will find five components, two instruction manuals – one for the house display component and the other for the outside weather sensor. It was easy to quickly read each manual and go about setting up the weather system; please read each short manual before you begin the installation. It took me 30 minutes to do the complete setup, once I had obtained the batteries and mounting pole.
A few of install tips: a) you will need 10 AA Alkaline batteries, four for the outside sensor and six (optional) for the inside display unit - best, to not lose all your settings if you have a power failure. The inside unit does come with an AC adapter. b) You can mount the outside unit to the top of a 2” or 4” side or top of a post, at least five feet off the ground, or you can mount on a 3/4” steel pole (you must have or purchase these boards or pipe); the mounting screws are found in the battery compartment of the outside sensor unit. c) You need a compass or download one on your cellphone to properly orient the outside senor – to ensure you get accurate wind direction and solar cell operation. d) I also used a six-inch level for a bit more rainwater measurement accuracy. e) Take your time if you decide to adjust the water measurement accuracy; it is easier if two people work together. f) Placement height is essential for the display unit, as it becomes hard to read, if it is placed to high, as it seems to fade; the stand is not adjustable. 
Overall, I really like this weather management system, providing both inside and outside climate information. It really is easy to setup and get operational, even with just one person! I would have liked to seen a more versatile viewing angle adjustment for the display unit. I enjoyed putting it up, getting it operational, and my grandchildren think it is pretty cool – good enough for me!

Complete and Easy to Use Weather Station

This weather station is pretty cool! If you live miles from the official weather station that your local news station uses you know that what they report is not true for your location. Install the AcuRite #01528 wireless 5-in-1 weather station on your property and find out your actual weather. The 5-in-1 outdoor sensor measures temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction and rain fall. The indoor color display panel is 6 ½ inches diagonal and illuminated with large clear numbers. It displays all the information sent from the outdoor sensor plus indoor temperature & humidity, current time & date and barometric pressure. The unit stores rainfall data by the month for the whole year. Push the select button and the weather select panel on the color display will show you: heat index, dew point, wind chill and feels like temperatures. This panel also shows how many days it has rained in the current month and how many days have passed without rain. The outdoor sensor and the indoor display must be within 330 feet of each other for the wireless connection to work properly. On top of all of the above features the AcuRite #01528 has a learning mode. After 14 days of operation the display will give you a forecast for the future 12 to 24 hours. The AcuRite #01528 comes with a mounting bracket and screws. You must provide your own mounting pole or mounting surface. The outdoor sensor should be mounted 33 feet above the ground for the most accurate forecast.

Know the weather at your house

I got this because I thought it would be kind of cool. I also thought it would be something good to get my nephew interested in science. It ends up that I love it myself. I'm always looking to see how much rain we got, how fast the wind is blowing, and how close was its weather forecast to the TV weather forecast versus the actual weather. The display is large and bright. In fact, it's probably too bright to keep in a bedroom. This is more for a kitchen area or office as I doubt you'd be able to sleep with this thing on. Unless you need a night light. It would probably work for that. I know some people might disagree but I actually like the way the outdoor unit looks. Who knew that checking out the weather could be so much fun? And by the way, my nephew loves it. Whenever he comes over it's the first thing he wants to see.

I had been using a 2 in 1 weather station, temperature and humidity inside and outside but I wanted to upgrade so I got the AcuRite 01528 Wireless Weather Station with 5-in-1 Sensor: Temperature and Humidity Gauge, Rain Gauge, Wind Speed and Wind Direction. Because the temperature dropped below normal cement usage for the post where I want to mount I mounted my AcuRite wireless weather station outdoor sensor in a temporary location on my deck. It is 9' off the ground and is facing south per the directions to get the sun needed for the solar panel and for orientation for wind direction. the AcuRite 01528 Wireless Weather Station with 5-in-1 Sensor: Temperature and Humidity Gauge, Rain Gauge, Wind Speed and Wind Direction for the last two weeks has been through strong winds, rain, snow and sun and is working GREAT!. I love that the AcuRite 01528 Wireless Weather Station with 5-in-1 Sensor: Temperature and Humidity Gauge, Rain Gauge, Wind Speed and Wind Direction also has memory for rain fall, days since last rainfall, yearly total, etc. The AcuRite 01528 Wireless Weather Station with 5-in-1 Sensor: Temperature and Humidity Gauge, Rain Gauge, Wind Speed and Wind Direction also gives you the option to have heat index,wind chill and feels like settings. the only thing I do not like is the display. The display looks pretty but because they used dark numbers on light back ground you can not see the display from a distance. I have not seen an adjustment for this either. My old 2 in 1 was white numbers against a black back ground and I could see it from across the room. But that said I love my AcuRite 01528 Wireless Weather Station with 5-in-1 Sensor: Temperature and Humidity Gauge, Rain Gauge, Wind Speed and Wind Direction and recommend it.

Great Weather Station!

I am writing this review on the AcuRite 01528 Wireless Weather Station with 5-in-1 Sensor: Temperature and Humidity Gauge, Rain Gauge, Wind Speed and Wind Direction. I have been wanting a home weather station for awhile. So I was very excited to get this to try out. And it definitely delivers on all aspects. The only negative I can say about this unit, is that it took a bit to get set up and calibrated properly. But once that is done, it is everything I was wanting in a home weather station. The setup includes mounting it to either a free standing pole or board. You can't mount this to the side of your house like I thought. And you will need a compass to get it aimed south. I went with a pole in my yard that I purchased from my local hardware store. You have to get the sensor unit set up in a place that is unobstructed by anything and is mounted perfectly level for 100 percent accuracy. Once you have it mounted perfectly level and facing south you do the rain meter calibration. It comes with instructions for this and is actually very simple to do. I will also note that the sensor requires four double A batteries. And they will need to be lithium if temperatures may drop below 4 degrees F. After all of this is done you are down to mounting the display unit in your house. This also has a couple of options. And you can use batteries for mobile use, or the power adapter for wall mounting. I chose to wall mount mine. Now that I have it all set up I am in love with this unit. It is also extremely accurate. And I love the forecast feature. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a highly accurate weather system in your home or office!

Will require some set up and aditional parts

If you are a weather nut like I am, this all in one weather station from AcuRite is awesome. I was skeptical how well it would work until I watched the display change while I monitored a severe storm that passed though the area. Rainfall, wind, temperature, and humidity recorded matched the readings from much more elaborate and expensive equipment at a nearby college research center. My original mounting location was on top of a fence post for a vinyl fence. It was high enough and open enough that it could record correct wind speeds, but it was too shaky to accurately catch and keep rainfall. For the data collection unit to work properly, you need to mount it on a solid base. I ended up moving the unit to the top of a wooden swing securely anchored to the ground. Another issue I had to deal with was finding that location that is free from redirected wind. Between other buildings and trees, I had to try a few places before I finally settled on a stable open location. Lastly, I cannot speak to the max distance you can have the data collection unit away from the base display. My max available distance is about 100 feet, and I can say that worked very well. I even have the base in the middle of the house, so I know the signal can make it though a couple of walls. Overall all this is a great tool for anyone interested in monitoring what's going on with the local weather.

Your own personal meteorologist

This is the neatest device I have ever owned it was very easy to set up and get up and running the hardest part was setting a post to mount it on. I have mine about 300 feet from the inside unit and it works great. It will tell you how much rain today and a total since it was last reset it will also tell how many days since last rainy it tells you humidity inside and outside temperature inside and out date time and year dew point wind chill heat index wind speed and wind direction this is a very nice unit if you like to keep up with weather conditions I am very happy to have this unit and will be buying one for a Christmas gift for a friend you need six aa batteries for the inside unit and 4 aa for the outside it has a power pack for the inside the batteries are only in case of a power outage one more thing you never have to go out and dump the rain out it does it as it falls the numbers are hard to read on the picture but are easy on person

Love my. Weather station

Because I live in the year-round, mild climate of North Central Florida, I am outdoors as much as the weather allows me too. Maintaining approximately six acres of heavily forested land, a huge garden, and hundreds of landscape plants keeps me busy and entertained. So, accurate weather information and forecasting is extremely important to me. Since I live in a agricultural area the local TV and Radio forecasts are 'close', but never that accurate since weather in the city is not representative of my rural area. We tend to be cooler in the Summer and also Winter as against the reported, present conditions, and, forecast weather for the city. 

I was excited for an opportunity to review an Acu-Rite 5-in-1 Weather Sensor and the Indoor Display for an honest review. Having an accurate, on-site, weather sensor to give me the relevant information I need to plan my daily activities is an invaluable tool. I installed my Acu-Rite 5-in-1 Weather Sensor on a PT wood, 4' x 4', 16' in length in the most sunny area I could find in close proximity to my house. After the installation my Acu-Rite Weather Sensor is mounted approximately 12' high above ground (see attached pics). The included Instructional Manual with detailed illustrations and graphics guided me through the entire process. YooHoo! However, it did take me two days to install the pole since I used concrete to cement the foundation in for stability since I live in a 90 MPH, 'Hurricane-Wind' zone. The actual installation of the Acu-Rite 5-in-1 Weather Sensor is pretty easy. I used the mounting hardware furnished with the sensor. I will advise that if you mount the sensor onto the included plastic/PVC bracket – pre-drill your mounting holes into the round PVC pipe with a 1/64th drill bit, first. It will make the sensor installation so much easier, especially if you have to use a ladder.

The Most Important Features To Me:

** Present Temperature – It gets very hot in my area, and I need to know how to prepare for it. Extra water. Large brimmed hat. SPF UV protection, etc.
** Heat Index – The present temperature coupled with humidity gives me an accurate scenario of what to expect, and for me, how long to work in those kinds of conditions.

Over the past two weeks I have grown to love this Acu-Rite Weather Sensor. It is my newest 'Best-Friend', and am looking forward to utilize this valuable tool all year round. WooHoo! Accurate Weather Is Extremely Important To Me

I ordered this particular weather station based on the history of satisfaction with my prior AcuRite product. My new one has been faulty from the beginning, the temperature is always about 20 degrees warmer than the actual outside. The wind speed sensor never shows even a slight breeze and the rain gauge as well registers nothing even when there is a monsoon outside.
I should have looked into a return earlier instead of changing batteries and thinking that I was doing something wrong. This unit is just a lemon. Unless you need to know the temperature in your living room. That has always been accurate.
