The PreSonus 16.4.2 digital console is by far the best steal on the market. If you're looking for a small-format digital mixer for front of house or side of house duties, or looking for a great interface with which to record live performances, look no further. Its small size (fits in a 19" rack!) and features (excellent sounding compression, sweepable 4-band EQ, high-pass filter and expander/gate on every channel, aux send, FX channel and main outputs) make this mixer one of the best ever produced. PreSonus have put out another great piece of gear with this one. PROS: - The "Fat Channel" (the name PreSonus gave to the insertable dynamic and EQ FX) is available on every channel, aux send, FX send/return, subgroups and main outputs. - Great sounding on-board FX. - Every input channel has an XLR + 1/4" input (not just the first 6, 8 or 10 like some other brands) - Fits in a standard 19" rack mount (with optional dog ears) - Channel copy/paste/store function is a huge time-saver (example, you have three male vocalists, instead of setting up each channel by hand you can copy and paste a "base" setup and tweak from there for each singer) - Dedicated tap tempo button - Aux/FX sends are flexible pre/post - Stereo link option -- allows you to link two channels/auxes together in a stereo pair so that EQ, dynamics, sends, etc. are shared - FireWire in on each channel -- allows you to mix monitor mixes, train new audio techs, etc. with re-recorded audio running a from a connected DAW. - Has the ability to be run from a connected iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) via FireWire connection to a WiFi connected computer. Great for letting your FOH roam to find a spot on the floor to mix from or adjust monitor mixes on stage during sound check. - Has an extra FireWire port that allows you to hook up another 16 or 24 channel StudioLive as a slave, expanding your console to meet your needs. CONS: - Only 6 aux sends (my personal application is for running in-ear monitor mixes, and with only 6 auxes I can only run 3 stereo mixes) - FX return to aux channels is convoluted (press "mix" twice on a an aux channel to access the return levels for that aux send), but once you figure it out it becomes second nature - Stereo linking only works with pre-set channel pairs (ie, 5 and 6 can be linked, but not 6 and 7); additionally, linked channels must be next to each other. A little annoying, but you can get around it with the channel copy/paste function. - No flying faders. Unlike some of the other digital consoles, the 16.4.2 doesn't have flying faders (and therefore no automation), but makes up for it somewhat with the "Find Faders" feature, where it displays the current location of all the faders on the board's meters. OVERALL: This board is a very excellent, very easy-to-use board. For those of us who grew up on -- and prefer the feel of -- analog desks, this board is the closest thing you can get to analog but still have the flexibility of digital. The Fat Channel is very "hands on" with dedicated knobs and meters for each of it's functions. Unlike some other boards, like the Yamaha 01v, everything you need is laid out on the board; no more switching through layers of scenes or pages to find your monitor mixes. Simply press "mix" on whatever aux channel you want and your levels pull up. The bottom line on the StudioLive 16.4.2 is it's a better console than some other more expensive ones for a fraction of the cost. Would buy another in a heartbeat.Read full review
Anyone wanting to use a digital mixer would be hard pressed to to find a better entry level system. Extremely easy to set up and use. The scene save function is one of the best outstanding features. As a legacy mixer, the Presonus 1642 is a quality and reliable mixer. Great for use as DAW hardware surface with most PC/MAC platforms. I currently use mine with Presonus Studio One software, witch seamlessly integrates a wonderful production system, that is flexible and stable.Analog inserts allow for patching external processors for each channel/track.to cut tight tracks. Digital post/mix is a breeze. This mixer is very good, to say the least. You can't find a better reasonably priced DAW hardware surface anywhere for any budget.

This board has everything! I went from a large rolling rack full of gear, to this digital board and some powered QSC k12's and it has been amazing! I work with a 10 piece wedding band usually, but I do several other projects as well, and having the option to save the scene, and go to another is perfect. The board is easy and intuitive to operate. I spend just a few days watching the videos and reading the manual, and did my first show last month. Performers were amazed! Now I have Compressors and gates for every channel!!! The possibility's are endless with wireless control and powerful recording once connected to a computer. Incredible stuff I may never even use, but still worth every cent. It does require a special spec for computer operation using Fire-wire (witch is a dieing format), so make sure you check the spec's if you want to use a laptop with it to control wireless or record.Read full review
I was looking at buying one of these from an online dealer. It was more than twice the price. This refurbished unit has the same warranty as new and arrived at my door in 2 days. Of all the digital mixers I looked at this was the easiest for me to use. I was able to install and have a basic set up for 8 mics, two guitars, piano, and an electronic drum set in 45 minutes or so. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a digital mixer for a small to medium sized church.
Aweseme mixing system, for more informations go check out the website http://www.presonus.com/products/Detail.aspx?ProductId=62 I'm in love with it, it's easy to control, best Presonus quality, a dream of digital mixing for smaller bands and producers!
