I love the new lower speeds and the all in one guard. Keeps flour from flying back in your face. Has a heavy duty little engine and steel g ears...which I like. The older one had plastic gears and we replaced them a couple of times. I also love the fact that I can use all of my attachments....especially the ice c ream maker. And I especailly love the red color. It just adds a pop of color to my kitchen and it wipes clean in a jiff.

Overall the mixer functions as it should and can handle heavier mixes but because it barley fastens to the stand it will rattle so bad that it will practically knock itself out of the stand if you do not hold it steady. The whole thing feels a little light in construction for the price you pay. Very disappointed in quality of this product compared to what it used to be.

This model KSS5 is the best mixer available. The current model Kitchen Aids use plastic gears and run with a horrible noise. The KSS5 runs powerfully and quietly. The "SS" in the model designation stands for "Solid State" speed control, an improvement over the prior model's (K5) mechanical speed control.

The Kitchenaid Stand mixer has definitely met all my expectations for quality, utility and price. I was researching the product for some time online and lost plenty of auctions on eBay before landing this gem. My mother-in-law has one and it has always stood as a staple of a great cook in our family, a status symbol of cooking competency. The mixer is powerful but does not cause any countertop vibrations and overwhelming noise. I have used it numerous times since purchase and look forward in purchasing the extra attachments for homemade ice cream and pasta making. The only minor item in my haste to purchase this product at the great price, I overlooked that it was not a tilt-up and after further research the 'fixed head' mixer was preferred by most chefs and cooks. The construction is strong, the design is elegant and surprisingly does not take up as much counter space as anticipated. I am satisfied!Read full review
I've been using a 15 year old non-stand mixer so maybe that's part of why I love this new one, but I can say, I love the new one. I've been wanting a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for years, but don't bake a lot. It doesn't matter. My old mixer was gross, spun out of control, required constant scraping of the bowl and got hot too fast. This mixer is heavy, but that's part of why it's great. It mixes efficiently and effectively. It's easy to use. It looks nice. I will probably bake more just because I like using the mixer. The price of the refurbished unit is great and I wouldn't know it wasn't brand new.
