reformatted the drive fresh out of the box because i didn't need the software that came with it and it works fine. transfer rates are fast and great for backing up the hard drive. kinda expensive, but i understand it is a portable model so that's why, just wish it was a little cheaper. other than that, great product works fine

Good choice for Mac Users

Many small bus powered drives state (usually incorrectly) that they are Macintosh compatible. This one actually appears to be. I reformatted it as Mac Journaled and partitioned it. If you use the right backup software (I use MImMac, a $10 shareware program), you can actually write a 'mirror' to a partition on the little Western Digital (if you have a Leopard OS machine), and make a bootable backup. What this means is that if you do something stupid to your computer, you can hold the Option key down atBootup, choose the WD as your bootup drive, and you are back in business. You then reformat the internal hard disk with Disk Utility, and use the back up program on the your WD to write everything back to your internal drive. In less than 2 hours, yourmachine is back to normal, with a System, all your settings, all your applications, and all your documents. Is this worth $79? You betcha!

NO BACK UP SOFTWARE

The product is great. It's small, quite, LED light lets you know when the drive is active. I don't like that it doesn't have vents. It doesnt get too hot. transfer rate is okay. Works like a normal drive. on my laptop comes up as drive F. It DOESN'T haveback up software. it has sync software. yo can sync it. it's not the same as backup software. sometimes sync software doesn't read the drive. gotta be restarted. I paid 80.00 in store. it''s decent. they need to work on their software.
