Looks great but ultimately underperforms

On paper, this machine looks like a dream come true - combining a beautifully designed portable DVD player with capability of a nice digital picture frame.

PROS
- Simply one of the most beautiful portable DVD player on the market with glossy, piano-blacksurface
- High resolution, 8.5', 800x480 color LCD Screen
- Long battery life from its tiny Li-Polymer battery (about 5 hours or more)
- Quiet operation
- Seemingly sturdy construction
- SD card slot for pictures
- USB port for flash drives and digital cameras

CONS
- Despite the high-resolution LCD, during DVD playback the quality of color reproduction is inferior to some of the other portable DVD players that cost less - such as the SONY FX820 which is about $40 less expensive.
- The USB port is NON-STANDARD and requires a dongle which can be easily get lost
- The Picture Frame mode is an afterthought - as soon as you shut the machine off and turn it back on again - it always revert back to the DVD mode. Furthermore, during the slide show playback it always shows on-screen display which requires extra push of button to make it go away. Very very annoying. Finally, the picture quality under the Picture Frame mode is merely average at best, comparable to a typical low-end digital frame.
- The picture quality from EXTERNAL VIDEO source is horrible and you cannot adjust aspect ratio of the external video. Forget about using this machine to play video game unless your game machine can output 16:9 ratio.
- The remote control does not adjust VOLUME, a strangeomission.
- While standing on a flat surface, it's hard to open the DVD door which is a clam shell WITHOUT locking mechanism!

Overall, for the price of $229 this machine looks good on paper and from outside but ultimately underperforms. Save $40 and getthe SONY FX820.

If you, like I, only need a portable DVD player for the occasional business or leisure trip via airplane, you would love this LG portable, for in its 'spare time' , it will perform the role of digital photo frame for you!

This player boasts a nice, clean, contemporary design and is compact it also has an internal memory to enable you to add your favorite pictures without the ongoing need for a memory stick or card.

The DVD player to this item produces a clean sound and nice picture I enjoyed using mynoise cancelling headphones with it immensely! Additionally, you can also use it as a photo viewer and mp3 player!

If I had one gripe, this is it: I would have liked to see it come complete with a carry pouch, as it's viewing screen (which has a high gloss finish), is always exposed to the threat of fingerprints and the occasional 'ding'.
