5 of 5 Perfect Solution Wednesday, May 21, 2008 Jaames from Henderson, NV
I was out of USB ports and needed a powered hub, this fit the bill perfectly while also adding a card reader into the mix. I just bought a new cell phone which uses the new Micro SD(HC) format for 4gb to 32gb cards, and at first I was afraid this wouldn't be compatible since the new format is not backwards compatible with older card readers, but it works perfectly! I am very pleased with this purchase. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 1. The wrong plug was included. 2. Don't expect po Sunday, May 18, 2008 Lorelle from Tacoma, WA
The USB cord that was in the package was the wrong one for this unit. It has a much bigger plug than the jack on the unit itself. Luckily I had an extra one on hand that was the correct size (it's the one that fits my mp3 player and digital cameras).
At first I thought the whole unit was defective, because 1) nothing lights up to show it's getting power and 2) Windows XP Pro didn't give me the standard "Hardware found" dialog box. But then I tried plugging in a Compact Flash card and voila! the light came on. And when I plugged my USB mouse into the unit, it works too. Summary: This is a great product, as long as you watch out for those minor deficiencies. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 This little device Rocks!!!! Sunday, May 11, 2008 A Customer from phoenix, az
Love this device, my laptop's performance is unbelievable improved! Have an aircard for connection, webcam, printer etc. and everything just cooperated with great ease this upon hooking it up from the box within a couple of moments, went straight to camera sd cards and so far not a problem, really can't say too much and buy.com's price is just the best! 4 of 5 Hub a keeper, but not a HubbaHubba Wednesday, April 30, 2008 A Customer from Colorado Springs, CO
GOOD: This is a functional USB hub. The main USB hub inputs on the back are easily accessible, and the flash drive inputs and card reader slots on the front are handy (although I have not tested them). When laid on its side as it is meant to be used (not standing in the base), rubber feet on the bottom keep the unit stable and in place. The hub provides reasonably good features for a reasonably good price.

NOTSOGOOD: The USB connector cord could've been a little longer, and since it requires a USB miniplug on the hub side it prevents the use of a longer standard USB connector cord. The unit itself feels very cheaply made with a plastic shell. The stand-up base is really quite useless since the unit is so lightweight--if more than one or two cords are attached, it tends to fall out of the base or fall over. So just ignore the picture and plan to use it in the horizontal mode--that's how it is made and meant to be used.

WHATITIS: If it had an aluminum case, a normal USB input plug, and I'd never seen the stand, I would have given it overall Five stars. Still, it's a decent hub for the money. Was this review helpful?

This hub/card reader was purchased to replace the 2 USB ports and card readers deleted by Sony from the 40GB PS3, which it does well. Since the unit was going into a open-air cantilever-type A/V stand, aesthetics were almost as important as function, and the slim, fairly clean appearance (though I replaced the ugly silver USB to mini-USB cable it came with with a black one to further hide it) allows it to go mostly unnoticed.

Additionally, having the majority of the USB ports on the back side of the unit hides the various dongles (for keyboard/mouse, etc.) from the casual observer nicely. As a hub and card reader (though I've only tested mine with SD), it has so far performed flawlessly. It's a little pricey as these things go, but combination hub/card readers are pretty tough to find, let alone ones that don't offend you aesthetically, so this suited my needs perfectly.
