3 of 5 Good But FM Reception AWFUL Saturday, October 25, 2008

Great little piece of electronics with one downside... You can't hear the stations for all the static. If you aren't hooking this unit up with a "direct" input, I wouldn't bother getting it. I needed a new radio for my truck so I bit the bullet and bought a Kenwood receiver that has a direct input for XM.
From what I understand, the new XM Radio units don't have the FM transmitter strength they once did due to the FCC coming down on them. I never had any trouble with my XM Roady (except in big cities with lots of stations) with static, but this radio was awful.
If I didn't direct input it I probably would have shipped it back to Buy.com.
Maybe that's the reason for the $50 rebate?
Pros: Great screen, looks, price with rebate (only $99)
Cons: FM Reception, only 10 favorite channels, functionality (menus, etc.)

I don't like it cause it does not pick up worth a darn. Every FM station dominates it. If I had it to do over again, I would keep the old one cause I could at least listen to it. I can't get reception in most areas. Worst money I ever spent Was this review helpful?

I've owned 3 XM radios myself, and have 3 more in other vehicles and this Xpress RC is by far the best. The color display is great, and the fact that I can scroll and see what's playing on other stations without flipping channels all the time is a great feature. Was this review helpful?

Of course I knew when I bought the receiver that it would only have ten presets, but I am used to thirty. Having said that I am adjusting well, and know how to get to channels that aren't on my presets from my presets. The screen looks gorgeous and is an excellent upgrade from any previous receiver. It has many thought out details that I am happy to have.
For instance: when using the receiver on my bedside table the screen goes dark after 30 seconds, but in my Jeep it stays lit the entire time. Once set up like this in the menu I don't have to change it every time when moving the receiver from inside to vehicle. I am happy with my purchase, I would hate to go back to any other receiver. The XpressRC is a very good satellite radio, it comes with a car kit so it is ready to install and use. Antenna installation guide is poorly described, I've installed it inside the car on the front panel. Signal gets broken when you pass through high buildings, but overall I get good signal strength. The radio is very easy to use, remote controller is a big PLUS! Very good build quality, split screen is something you will definitely use, the image quality is sharp, bright, and clear.
